چکیده

The parity violating longitudinal asymmetry A is calculated for quasielastic electron scattering. We use a variety of relativistic mean field models for the response of nuclear matter and 12 C at a momentum transfer of q=550 MeV/c. Relativistic effects from a reduced nucleon mass, RPA correlations and vacuum polarization can all change A by a relatively large amount. These large nuclear structure corrections could make it impossible to extract strange quark matrix elements or radiative corrections to weak axial currents.

Electroweak quasielastic response functions in nuclear matter

Quasielastic electromagnetic and parity-violating electron scattering response functions of relativistic nuclear matter are reviewed. The roles played by the Hartree-Fock field and by nuclear correlations in the Random Phase Approximation (treated within the continued fraction scheme) are illustrated. The parity-violating responses of nuclei to polarized electrons are also revisited, stressing ...

Parity-violating Longitudinal Response

The parity-violating quasielastic electron scattering response is explored within the context of a model that builds antisymmetrized random phase approximation and Hartree-Fock correlations on a relativistic Fermi gas basis. Particular emphasis is put on the weak-neutral longitudinal response function, since this observable displays a strong sensitivity to isospin correlations: specifically, it...

Parity–violating quasielastic electron scattering is studied within the context of the relativistic Fermi gas and its extensions to include the effects of pionic correlations and meson–exchange currents. The work builds on previous studies using the same model; here the part of the parity–violating asymmetry that contains axial–vector hadronic currents is developed in detail using those previou...

The longitudinal quasielastic parity-violating electron scattering response is explored within the context of a model that builds antisymmetrized RPA-HF correlations on a relativistic Fermi gas basis. The large sensitivity to nuclear dynamics of this observable, found in previous studies where only pionic correlations were included, is shown to survive in the present model where the effects fro...

Parity Violating Elastic Electron Scattering and Coulomb Distortions

Parity violating elastic electron-nucleus scattering provides an accurate and model independent measurement of neutron densities, because the Z couples primarily to neutrons. Coulomb distortion corrections to the parity violating asymmetry Al are calculated exactly using a relativistic optical model. Distortions significantly reduce Al in a heavy nucleus. However even with distortions, an exper...
